Beschreibung

Die Fondation Maeguerite et Aimé Maeght ist eine der bedeutendsten Kulturinstitutionen der Welt. Die am 28. Juli 1964 von André Malraux eingeweihte Stiftung entstand aus der Freundschaft von Aimé Maeght und seiner Frau Marguerite mit einigen der bedeutendsten Künstler des 20. Jahrhunderts.

Das Museum besitzt eine der bedeutendsten Sammlungen von Gemälden, Skulpturen, Zeichnungen und grafischen Werken moderner und zeitgenössischer Künstler in Europa mit mehr als 13.000 Exponaten: eine außergewöhnliche Sammlung von Skulpturen von Alberto Giacometti und Werken von Joan Miró, Meisterwerke von Pierre Bonnard, Marc Chagall, Alexander Calder, Georges Braque und vielen anderen.

    Seeing the sculptures in that beautiful natural setting was impressive, and somehow more thought provoking. The special exhibition was well curated and informative. I would have liked to see more Chagall pieces. I.enjoyed my lunch under the fir trees and had good service. Overall, a terrific experience (though the walk up that hill from lower car park took it out of me!). Many thanks.
